Pool distribution is the delivery of orders to numerous destination points within Empire’s area of service. Regular LTL shipments are combined into a volume shipment (truckload) and shipped to a regional Empire terminal. Once received, the pool is off-loaded, sorted and segregated by location and customer, then reloaded onto local delivery vehicles for delivery to customer.
Use of Empire pool distribution can reduce costs over our already low LTL rates. As important as price is that allows us to maintain protective service to the customer’s dock and cuts down on handling, which significantly reduces claim potential. In many cases, transit times can be reduced by using pool distribution over LTL deliveries.
